Free tool / llms.txt Generator

Create an llms.txt file in two minutes.

llms.txt is a short Markdown file at your site's root that gives AI tools a plain summary of who you are and where your best pages are. Create one here, or check the one you have. Google says it doesn't use llms.txt in Search, so treat it as an extra for AI tools, not a ranking factor.

  • Add your business or site name: it becomes the file's title.
  • Add a one-sentence summary of what you do and for whom.

Upload the file to the root of your site so it opens at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt.

An llms.txt example

Here is a complete file for a fictional accountant. Only the first line, the H1 with the name, is required. The rest follows the format proposed at llmstxt.org.

How to create an llms.txt file

  1. Write your name as the H1, then one sentence on what you do, for whom and where, as a blockquote.
  2. Add a short note with the facts AI tools often get wrong: areas you don't cover, services you don't offer, how pricing works.
  3. List your five to ten most useful pages under H2 headings, each as [name](full https address) with a short note.
  4. Put nice-to-have links under a heading called Optional, which tools can skip when they need less.
  5. Save it as a plain text file named llms.txt, upload it, and open it in a browser to check.

The generator above does the first four steps for you and checks that every link is a full https address.

How to check an llms.txt file

Switch the tool to Check a file and enter your website. It fetches yourdomain.com/llms.txt, or reads a file you paste, and checks it against the llmstxt.org format:

  • The address returns a plain text file, not a web page or an error.
  • The first line is an H1 with your name, the only part the format requires.
  • A blockquote summary, a line starting with >, comes before the first section.
  • Sections use H2 headings, with no other headings in the file.
  • Every list item in a section is a Markdown link with a full https address.

Passing means the file follows the format. It doesn't mean an AI tool will read it, or that the pages it links to are allowed in your robots.txt; the Robots.txt Tester checks that.

Where to place the llms.txt file

At the root of your domain, so it opens at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt, the same place as robots.txt. The current version of the proposal also allows a file inside a section of a site, covering the pages under that path, but one file at the root is all most businesses need.

There is nowhere to submit it. Tools that use the file fetch it from that address when they need it.

Does llms.txt work, and will it help SEO?

It won't help Google rankings. Google says you don't need new machine-readable files, AI text files or Markdown to appear in Google Search, and that adding them neither helps nor harms. The proposal itself says the file is used on demand, when an AI tool needs information about a site while helping someone, and some developer platforms, OpenAI's developer docs among them, publish one.

Treat it as a small courtesy to the AI tools that look for it. What decides whether ChatGPT or Google's AI answers mention you is crawler access, clear pages and what other sites say about you. Check access with the Robots.txt Tester and a page's readiness with the AEO Checker. For the full explanation, read What is llms.txt?.

What to do after you publish it

  • Check it opens at /llms.txt as plain text, not as a web page.
  • Make sure every page it links to is public and allowed in robots.txt.
  • Update it when your services, prices or key pages change.
  • Don't expect a traffic change, and don't pay a monthly fee for it.

The short answers

What you need to know.

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed standard: a Markdown file at yourdomain.com/llms.txt with your name, a one-line summary and links to the pages that explain your business best. It is meant to help AI tools and agents find the important parts of a site quickly.

Where do I put my llms.txt file?

At the root of your domain, so it opens at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt, the same place as robots.txt. The proposal also allows a file inside one section of a site, but one at the root is all most businesses need. On WordPress, Shopify or Webflow you may need an upload setting or a small plugin; on a custom site, add it to the public folder.

Does llms.txt help SEO or AI visibility?

Not much, on its own. Google says you don't need special AI files to appear in its AI features, and that llms.txt neither helps nor harms there. Some AI tools and agents do read it, so it can be a useful summary. What actually decides whether AI assistants recommend you is crawler access, consistent business facts, useful pages and mentions elsewhere.

Questions

llms.txt Generator, answered.

Will llms.txt get my site indexed by ChatGPT?

No. ChatGPT search finds pages through its own crawler, OAI-SearchBot, which follows your robots.txt. Make sure it is allowed (our Robots.txt Tester checks this) and that your pages answer real questions.

Is llms.txt the same as robots.txt?

No. robots.txt tells crawlers what they may fetch. llms.txt is a summary for AI tools and grants or blocks nothing.

What should I put in llms.txt?

Your name, one sentence on what you do and for whom, and links to the pages that matter most: services, pricing, proof, contact and key guides, each with a short note.

How often should I update it?

Whenever your key pages, services or prices change. An out-of-date summary points tools at the wrong pages.

Do I need to submit llms.txt anywhere?

No. There is no submission process. Tools that use the file fetch it from yourdomain.com/llms.txt when they need it.

How do I check or validate my llms.txt file?

Switch the tool to Check a file and enter your website, or paste the file. It checks that the address returns plain text, then the H1 title, the blockquote summary, the H2 sections and that every link is a full https address.

Is my information stored anywhere?

No. The generator runs in your browser, and nothing you type into it is sent to us. The checker sends only the website address you enter, so our server can fetch that site's llms.txt, and keeps the result for a few minutes.
